Saving & Managing Finances By The Children While Playing Innovative Games

There are a number of families who are suffering from many social and medical issues and they do not know how to deal with such trials and tribulations of their lives. Once a girl and her family were anxious as the girl was diagnosed with a seasonal disease. In the midst of so much of tension, the brothers of the girl came forward to offer money to fund the treatment of the little girl. The brothers had been saving money in a piggy bank by which they paid all the medical expenses in the city hospital. This made the family realize that saving is essential for the survival in this expensive world. Middle class families
One of the NGOs had been organizing workshops named as the Sesame Workshop in India with the mission of helping children to grow smarter and stronger and making them independent. They teach these children the perfect way to manage their finances independently. These workshops are regularly held under the financial guidance of MetLufe Foundation. This initiative has been launched in nine countries over a period of five years. These children from their early days are made to realize the real meaning of financial empowerment so that they can be financially independent in the future.
In our childhood days, we have all played the game of Tambola. This game has been re-created and re-launched in the Sesame Workshops with colorful cards which features images of items used in daily chores like a car, toy and much more. This new version of the Tambola game encourages children to make wise decisions and they develop the ability to justify their decisions. For example, the children are taught to pick up an ordinary food over expensive food items in time of financial crisis. They also justify why they have picked up a food item which is more healthy and substantial. This game allows them to make their choices wisely.
Another popular game which is adopted in this workshop is based on the ‘Galli Galli Sim Sim’ characters and have improvised a game known as the ‘Sikke Ki Yatra’. This game helps the children to understand the meaning of saving, spending, and sharing.
One of the comic strips named ‘Humare Sapne’ had inspired an eight-year-old girl to become a teacher when she grows up. She had been studying hard and saving money to achieve her goals. When other children enjoy in the festive season, this little girl uses to save up money for school uniform. She is eventually learning how to manage her finance and would achieve her goal of becoming a teacher.
In this 21st century, many such kids are becoming powerful and learning the various ways of how to manage their finance. This would one day make them financially independent. They are embedded with the idea of saving for their future and the thought of achieving their goals. They learn and spread the messages of financial empowerment and bring a social change in the world at large.
